My name is Yuhao Wu [吴雨豪, Wú Yǔ Háo]. I am a composer and sound designer currently based in Shanghai, where I focus on film scoring and immersive media. In 2025, I founded my own music studio, Wujuanshan Music [雾卷山音乐], as a dedicated space for creative production and collaborative projects.
My creative voice was forged through a decade of international study, from a BMus at Berklee College of Music to an MMus and PhD in Composition at the University of Manchester. This period allowed me to develop a unique compositional language that fuses Chinese classical aesthetics -- such as the spatial-temporal concepts of poetry and scroll paintings -- with ethnic music theories like maqam. My practice is deeply rooted in field research, taking me from the rhythmic Meshrep gatherings in rural Kashgar to the environmental resonances of Norway and Armenia. These experiences serve as the core of my artistic growth, where I transform lived observation into complex, meticulous soundscapes that explore the intersection of ancient craftsmanship and modern avant-garde expression.
I have spent years navigating the fast-paced demands of the commercial music industry. As a music producer for Beijing Enlight Media and a Music Director for Shanghai Ranspace Musical, I managed high-profile productions and gained a deep understanding of large-scale cinematic storytelling. My industry portfolio includes contributions to major films such as Article 20 (第二十条) and Under the Light (坚如磐石), as well as the score for the series White Cat Legend (大理寺少卿游) and sound design for the musical The Legend of 1900. Since establishing Wujuanshan Music in 2025, I have completed original scores for several films, including Midsummer Torrent, which was awarded Best Original Score at the 8th Huace Film Academy.
The convergence of these two worlds -- the analytical depth of academia and the narrative efficiency of the industry -- defines my current practice. At Wujuanshan, I bridge the gap between technical innovation and traditional craftsmanship, using the precision of the studio to articulate the wild, rough-edged beauty I find in the field. By treating every score as both a cinematic requirement and an artistic inquiry, I strive to create music that is as intellectually grounded as it is emotionally resonant. My goal remains to translate the complexities of human experience into a language of sound that feels both contemporary and timeless.
